Even small amounts of sugar, eaten frequently, keep the body in a repeated cycle of glucose spikes and insulin release. Even products marketed as ‘healthy’ contribute to these repeated surges.
Each spike subtly but persistently trains the body to crave more. It is the frequency, not just the quantity, that keeps the loop running.
Every time you eat carbohydrate, insulin is deployed to move glucose out of the bloodstream and into cells. That is its job. The problem is how often and how aggressively it is triggered, coffee and something sweet, a beige lunch, an afternoon dip, something sweet again at night.

Flavoured yoghurts (often 15–20g a pot), granola and ‘healthy’ cereals, snack bars, smoothies and juices, coffee-shop drinks, sauces and condiments, soups, ready meals, and ‘healthy’ drinks like kombucha and vitamin waters.
Syrups (golden, maple, agave, rice, corn, glucose), nectars, concentrates and fruit-juice concentrate, anything ending in ‘-ose’ (glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltose, dextrose), plus molasses, honey, malt extract and cane juice.
‘No added sugar’ and ‘unsweetened’ do not mean low sugar, always check total sugar per serving. ‘Low sugar’ means under 5g per 100g, but watch serving sizes. Glycaemic load matters more than sugar grams alone.
White bread, pastries, crackers and many cereals are digested rapidly and behave almost identically to sugar. Check the ingredients, if white or wheat flour appears first, it is highly processed and will raise blood sugar quickly.
